Windows 3.1 Setup

1. Make a directory on your hard drive C:\TMP. Download ALL three of the following disk files to that directory.
   Setup Disks version 1.05
   • Disk 1(w31d1.exe)
   • Disk 2(w31d2.exe)
   • Disk 3(w31d3.exe)
2. Label three diskettes as disks 1 through 3. Put the first disk in your A: drive.
3. Go to your "Program Manager" Go to File and then to Run and in the command prompt type
   C:\TMP\W31D1 A:
   Put the second disk in the drive. Go to File and then to Run and in the command prompt type
   C:\TMP\W31D2 A:
   Put the third disk in the drive. Go to File and then to Run and in the command prompt type
   C:\TMP\W31D3 A:
   
4. Put the first disk back into the disk drive and proceed with the following directions:

Step 1: Install the software

• Put the Disk 1 into the A: drive.
• Open the Program Manager.
• Go to the "File" menu. Select "Run".
• Enter A:\setup.exe in the dialog box.
• Click OK.

Step 2: Configure the Dialer

• Double click on the Trumpet Winsock icon.
• Go to the "Dialer" menu. Select the "setup.cmd" file at the bottom of the pull-down menu.
• Enter the following information at the appropriate prompts:

Modem Initialization String:    Optional (consult your documentation if you are having connection problems)

Your Username:     Type your username.

Your username MUST be in lower case.
Do NOT add the "@imt.net"

Your Password:     Type your password.

Trumpet will show asterisks. (******)

• In Trumpet Winsock go to the "File" menu. Select PPP Options.
• Click in the box labeled: Password Authentication Protocol (PAP), the box must be checked.
• Enter your username and password in the appropriate boxes. Your username MUST entered in lowercase.
• Click OK

Step 3: Configure the Setup

• In Trumpet Winsock go to the "File" menu. Select "Setup".
• You will not need to change the setting in the top half of the window.
• The Internal PPP box should be checked.
  Set the "SLIP PORT" to equal the com port your modem is using. If you do not know which port your modem is on, consult your modem documentation, the modem's installer, or the manufacturer. Valid ranges are 1 through 4 for most computers.
• In the box labeled "Baud rate, enter the corresponding number to the right of the equal sign below.
• If your modem speed is:

9600bps = 9600
14400bps = 19200 or 38400
28800bps = 38400 or 57600
33600bps = 57600 or 115200

• Click OK.
• Exit Trumpet Winsock.

Step 4: Connect to the Internet

• Double click Trumpet Winsock and select "Dialer" and then "Login".
• Once you are connected, MINIMIZE Trumpte Winsock with the down arrow in the upper right hand corner of the screen. DO NOT close Trumpet Winsock.
• Double click on the icon of the Internet application you wish to use, such as Netscape.
• When you are done working on the Internet Double click on the Trumpet Winsock icon and choose "Dialer" and then "Bye" to log off.
